The History of Love (video)

Danish philosopher Anders Fogh Jensen, guides us through the history of love from the 12th century until present day. What kind of images have we created for love? How do they affect us? And just what is love’s function? One point Fogh Jensen demonstrates is that romantic love does not especially originate in the Romantic Period, but is rather a reinvention of the courtly love of the earlier chivalrous culture of the knights. Anders explains where love appeared, how women became central and how our Western love’s geometric form – the triangle – took shape. He leads us through the history all the way to the images of love that permeate us today. Some of his theories are that, today, love has become a religion of happiness, and that we lack a language of love for men.
